A Quick Word
UX is not a craft or science to be rigidly applied to a predefined group of digital products. At it's essence it is about studying, empathizing with, and facilitating interactions and experiences.
I remember during one of my first classes in grad school, being presented a video that talked about "experience design". In hindsight, I don't think the intended message was what I took away, but talk about a fortuitous serendipity. The idea of "designing an experience" is still what I strive to do every day.
The process I have cultivated stresses strategizing around and designing an experience based on research and observation. As I am known to say: "If you are clear about the experience you want, you can learn or create what ever means are necessary to deliver it, but the experience comes first..."
